Getting Started with the Teltonika RUT241 Initial Setup and Overview of RutOS

1. Overview

The Teltonika RUT241 is a compact industrial 4G/LTE router designed for secure remote access, IoT connectivity, and resilient field deployments. This guide provides:

  • An overview of included hardware

  • SIM installation details

  • First‑time login and basic configuration

  • A guided walk through the Setup Wizard

  • A high‑level orientation of the RutOS operating system

This document is intended for engineers deploying Teltonika routers in professional or industrial environments.

2. Package Contents

A standard RUT241 package includes:

  • RUT241 Router

  • SIM adapters (Nano/Micro/Standard)

  • SIM tray eject tool

  • Quick Start Guide QR code directing to the Teltonika Wiki

  • Power accessories (depending on model variant)

A SIM card may be inserted prior to powering on using the eject tool to open the SIM tray.

3. Preparation Before First Login

3.1 Default Credentials

The default credentials and device information are printed on the device label:

  • Default admin username

  • Device‑unique default password

  • Default Wi-Fi SSID and Wi-Fi password

Recommended: Photograph the device label for future reference.

3.2 DHCP Requirements

Ensure your laptop network adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically.
The RUT241 will allocate a LAN IP via its built-in DHCP server.

A static IP can be used but is unnecessary for initial access.

4. First Login Procedure

  1. Connect your PC to the LAN port.

  2. Open a web browser and navigate to:

    http://192.168.1.1

  3. Enter:

    • Username: admin

    • Password: default password from device label

  4. Set a new administrator password when prompted.

The Setup Wizard will launch automatically.

5. Setup Wizard Guide

5.1 Web Interface Settings

  • Select preferred language.

5.2 Time Configuration

  • Sync time with browser.

  • Automatically sets correct timezone and system clock.

5.3 LAN Configuration

  • Default router IP: 192.168.1.1

  • Modify to avoid subnet conflicts at deployment sites.

  • DHCP server settings can also be changed or disabled.

5.4 Mobile (Cellular) Configuration

If a SIM is installed:

  • View SIM/operator status

  • Enter SIM PIN if required

  • Configure APN if not detected automatically

5.5 Wi‑Fi Configuration

  • Enable or disable Wi‑Fi

  • View/change default password

  • Adjust SSID if needed

5.6 RMS (Remote Management System)

The wizard includes optional RMS activation:

  • Used for cloud monitoring, remote access, and VPN services

  • Can be configured later if preferred

5.7 Apply Configuration

Selecting Finish applies all settings and loads the Overview Dashboard.

6. RutOS Dashboard Overview

The dashboard provides core operational data:

  • System uptime

  • Current time

  • Firmware version

  • RAM usage

  • Mobile modem status (if applicable)

  • Wi‑Fi status

  • LAN and WAN status

  • IPv6 information

  • Recent logs and system events

  • RMS connection status

  • Failover settings (WAN → Mobile priority)

This allows quick verification of router health.

7. Status Pages

7.1 System Status

Displays:

  • Firmware version

  • Serial number

  • MAC addresses

  • Device name

7.2 Network Status

Provides visibility into:

  • Mobile connection metrics

  • LAN and WAN interfaces

  • Firewall activity

  • NAT table entries

  • DHCP leases

  • Static routes

7.3 Wi‑Fi Status

Shows Wi‑Fi configuration and associated clients.

7.4 Services Monitoring

Includes:

  • Active daemons and services

  • CPU usage

  • Network traffic graphs

  • Real-time mobile signal charts

8. Network Configuration Menu

8.1 Mobile

Configure:

  • APN

  • SIM PIN

  • Mobile bands

  • Network operator selection

8.2 WAN Interfaces

Supports:

  • DHCP

  • Static addressing

  • PPPoE

  • Cellular WAN

  • IPv4/IPv6

8.3 LAN Configuration

Most commonly modified settings:

  • LAN IP/subnet
