Teltonika SMS Driver Installation Guide

Audience: Field Engineers, Support Technicians
Purpose: Ensure Teltonika modems run a firmware version compatible with the Forest Rock SMS Driver used by Niagara Supervisors and JACEs.

Teltonika SMS Module Installation Guide (Version: 1.1)

Prerequisites Before the TeltonikaSMS module can be configured effectively, the following prerequisites must be in place: - A Teltonika router with SMS support - Teltonika router and JACE-8000 must be connected via a local network - The TeltonikaSMS module must be installed on the JACE-8000.

NOTE: The JACE-8000 must be correctly licenced to use the TeltonikaSMS module

Configuration

Follow the below steps to install and configure the TeltonikaSMS module:

  1. Copy the teltonikaSMS-rt.jar file into your local Niagara modules folder

NOTE: (this is usually under C:/Niagara/Niagara-4.X/modules)

  1. Launch or restart the correct Workbench version

  2. Connect to the platform of the JACE-8000 you wish to install the module on

  3. Copy the module to the remote JACE-8000 using ‘Software Manager’

  4. Restart the remote station using ‘Application Director’

  5. Setup your Teltonika router by following this guide:

NOTE: If a field named ‘Access’ is present, this must contain ‘sms_send’.

NOTE: If your router supports serial utilities, the modem must not be in serial mode


  1. Connect to your remote station once it has launched using workbench

  2. Open the teltonikaSMS palette in Workbench

  3. Copy the ‘TeltonikaSMSService’ into the remote station services under ‘Config > Services’

  4. Complete all fields in the TeltonikaSMSService using the details entered from step 6

  5. Copy the ‘SMSAlarmRecipient’ to the required wiresheet on the remote station

  6. Enter the mobile number of the individual you would like to notify on the selected alarm state changes

NOTE: The mobile number must contain the country code. For example: 447475411668

  1. Customise the message format using the available variables

  2. Wait for an alarm to be raised or try the ‘Send Test Message’ action on the ‘SMSAlarmRecipient’ component.

NOTE: If the SMS notification has not been successful, the fault cause will be presented in the ‘TeltonikaSMSService’ component.

Future Forest Rock Driver Update

Forest Rock is developing an updated SMS driver that:

  • Supports newer Teltonika firmware and will work across multiple firmware versions.

  • Removes the requirement for a firmware downgrade

  • Improves AT command handling compatibility

This guide will be updated once that driver is released.
